Satyapal Malik is an Indian politician and the current Governor of Meghalaya. He was born on July 24, 1946, in the city of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. He has held several important positions in the government and politics of India.
Malik started his political career in the 1970s and was first elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1974. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha from 1989 to 1990 and then from 1990 to 2004. He also served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014.
In addition to his political career, Malik has also held several important administrative positions. He served as the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) from 1991 to 1992 and then as the Chairman of the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) from 1993 to 1996. He was also appointed as the Governor of Bihar in 2017 and then as the Governor of Goa in 2019, before being appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya in 2021.
Malik has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party at different times in his political career. He is known for his outspoken views and has often made controversial statements.
